One More Time, BIKETOWN, Awards & Gateway Green

It seems like we just begun. It is with mixed feelings that we look to our last week of the 2016 Portland Trophy Cup. On one hand, I’m tired. On the other, it’s fun! It wouldn’t have been possible without our sponsors so I’d like to thank them one more time.

Portland Bicycle Studio
Big props to PBS for keeping everybody’s bikes dialed but also for leading the clinics before each race.

Stages
Stages throws down the cash to make that mad dash to the first corner so interesting.

The Athletic
You know how your Trophy Cup number is the coolest one that you get all season? That’s thanks to The Athletic. Thanks go to them for also creating the best cap (not hat) in town. If you haven’t gotten one be sure to grab one at registration tomorrow.

Shimano
Keeping the course tied up as tight as possible (and so that we don’t have to use cones throughout for the whole course).

Breadwinner Cycles
How do you get 1000 stakes, 10 light towers, 6 barriers and 500 cones on course? In a cool little Nissan truck that belongs to Breadwinner. The course would never happen if it weren’t for that little truck.

Gigantic Brewing Company
Do you guys like to drink good beer at a reasonable price? Of course you do!

Portland Design Works
Lighting up the night (and a set of barriers) happens because of these guys. Always supportive of the race scene and the ride back home.

Rapha
You all want to look good while hopping barriers right? Well paint the barriers pink! A supporter since day one.

Tastebud
Best pizza in town. And at a bike race even.

Knight Composites
Forgot your wheels in the pit last weekend? Good thing they’re here to get you setup with a fancy carbon set to cruise around on.

Don’t forget to watch the first (and surely last) BIKETOWN cyclocross race. The race is at 7:15 and if you race in the women’s race, 1/2 or single speed races don’t forget that your start time is pushed back a bit. Here’s the schedule for the night:

Do you want one more chance to hang out with the funnest folks you could ever race with? Make sure you’re at the awards party this Thursday at The Athletic. We’ll have refreshments soft and hard from Atlas Soda Works and Gigantic Brewing and foodstuffs from Olympia Provisions. Party starts at 6pm with awards for the top three finishers from each category at 7:30pm.

I know that all of you ride your bikes off road and would love to have more places to do it. Gateway Green is due to start construction in a matter of weeks and needs that last financial push to get $3 million in grant funding to build out the entire park.

They’ll be out at the race tomorrow to talk about it and answer all the questions that you might have. To get you guys motivated to help out we’ll be giving out free entry to anybody that makes a $50 donation at the race. Here’s more information about the plans: https://www.oregonskitchentable.org/crowdfunding/dirt-lab-gateway-green

See you all out there at PIR one more time!

Super Special Announcement & Awards Party Details

It is my great honor to announce the first ever BIKETOWN cyclocross event. We will be hosting a two lap team relay race for the enjoyment of the fans. Now this will jiggle the schedule around a bit but I think it's going to be worth it. There are a few team spots open so if you have one wiling participant from the women's categories and another from the dudes get ahold of me. The race format will be one lap for each team member around a modified BIKETOWN specific course that should be good for spectating.

Here's the night's schedule:
5:30 PM
Junior Women
Junior Men

5:55 PM
Masters 2/3 Men 35+
Masters 3/4 Men 35+
Masters Men 50+
Masters Men 60+

6:35 PM
Category 2/3 Men
Category 3/4 Men
Category 5 Men

7:15 PM

Category 2/3 Women
Category 3/4 Women
Category 5 Women

8:20 PM
Category 1/2 Men
Masters 1/2 Men 35+

Another change to the course will be brought to you by the Poler team. It'll involve a shortcut and I'll let you guess what you'll need to do to take the shortcut. It ought to be a fan favorite.

The awards party will be happening next Thursday, October 6. We'll have adult beverages for adults from Gigantic Brewing, soft beverages from Atlas Soda Works for kids and adults like me who don't do the booze. Olympia Provisions will also be bringing their hot dog cart and grilling up some meats. Party starts at 6pm and awards will happen around 7:30pm to make sure you all can get there from work with plenty of time.

Series points are updated on the Trophy Cup site and soon to be on the OBRA site.

We have some great prizes to hand out to the top three of each category and also some special stuff from Stages and Knight Wheels. Gotta be present to win those!

There is one last race to get your double Single Speedo points. Show up in style and get those extra points. If you need any inspiration, here's a bit:

Last Week was Great and This Week is Looking Even Better!

For those of you who may have missed it, we have added Men 50+ and Men 60+ categories that will race in the 5:55pm time slot. We hope to see plenty of you fast old dudes out there tomorrow and next week.

Did you know that Stages sponsors the holeshot competition each week for the 1/2s and the Singlespeed races? $50 to the winners isn't too bad for getting to the first corner before everybody. They also have demos available for any racers that want to dip their toes into the power meter game.

Series points can always be found on the Trophy Cup website and full results and standings are also available on the OBRA site.

Speaking of points, it's pretty tight at the top of the Singlespeed category and lest you forget that we abide by the Single Speedo tradition and I look forward to seeing the individual style that you'll all approach this opportunity.

So many photos out there of last week and even a video that Patty made. Check it out!
